JENNIE ADÉN
Down to Earth
I have worked with the entire design process, from refining the raw materials to designing and manufacturing products. A collaboration between my design and the prerequisites of the nature.
What is the origin of the material, the origin of the form, the origin of the product, my own origin? At present time, we often take raw materials and industrially manufactured products for granted. Through the device “digging where you stand”, I have created products that show how it could look like if we were forced to make everything from scratch and entirely by ourselves. I want to highlight the possibilities and materials that are available in a limited area. In this project I have used raw materials from Sölje, a small village far out in the west of the province of Värmland. I have a strong personal connection to this area.
The materials I have worked with are wool, wood, polypore fungus, elk and slate. Based on my various experiments with materials and refining methods, I have explored the materials’ characteristics and uncontrollability to create a collection of products.
